Vintage c. 1950s Francoise Montague Black & Gold-Tone Double-Bead Clip Earrings
These striking Françoise Montague earrings feature a classic double-loop construction combining polished black resin with gleaming gold-tone metal. Two loops of round black beads, partially encased by highly polished gold-tone end caps, create an almost figure-eight silhouette with a smaller central bead serving as the focal point.
The earrings have the sophisticated, sculptural quality associated with French couture jewelry of the period.
Measuring approximately 1 3/4 inches long x 1 inch wide, they have substantial presence without becoming overly elaborate.
Françoise Montague established a connection with the Paris fashion world early in her career, producing hatpins for leading Paris milliners as well as jewelry for the couture. Early Montague jewelry was not always signed; therefore, the absence of a signature is not necessarily inconsistent with an early attribution. This pair is unsigned and is being offered as attributed to Françoise Montague rather than as a signed example.
